IKEA Philippines Finally Confirmed to Open by 2020
We’ve had our doubts and uncertainties. Finally, though, the globally renowned Swedish furniture maker is coming to the Philippines – and IKEA Philippines is yet to become the largest in the world.
Upon announcement of the company in a launch held at Mall of Asia (MOA) on November 20, Tuesday, the international store is set to be a Php 7 billion investment in the country. The furniture giant has established a long-term lease partnership with the SM Group, as the largest IKEA branch will be built at the heart of the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
LARGEST IKEA STORE IN THE WORLD
Yep. IKEA Philippines is set to be the biggest in the history of all IKEA stores around the globe. With construction underway, the visualized store will be 65,000 square meters in size. Usual IKEA stores only span for 35,000 square meters, with the Filipino branch almost twice as large. To be able to imagine the store’s vastness and breadth, Christian Rojkjaer, Managing Director of IKEA Southeast Asia, has compared it to having 150 basketball courts.
However, the whole shop floor is still more or less likely the same of other IKEA stores abroad. The 65,000 sqm span will also consist of the furniture maker’s expansive warehouse, together with a call center in tandem with its e-commerce facilities.
Similar to the multigiant’s prototype versions of its store, IKEA Philippines will host a cozy restaurant inside – serving all the Swedish classics available on their menu. Useful and convenient, especially with the humongous area size, don’t you think?
Aside from the restaurant, the giant warehouse, and the techy integrated call center, the Philippine branch will also boast a play area for the young ones. IKEA Playroom offers a safe play place for the kids while the parents continue on with their furniture and home shopping.
The core vision and value of the Swedish giant is officially called sustainability. Not only is this environmental, but healthy and inspiring as well.
WIDE ARRAY OF IKEA PRODUCTS UNDERWAY
In its launch, IKEA Southeast Asia also mentioned that the super store will offer a long list of products, with its range totaling to a number of 9,000. Affordable and functional, the item offerings of IKEA Philippines will consist of everything under the umbrella of home furnishing: from clothing racks to ottomans and recliners.
With an expected roster of suggestions and choices for room settings, the trend for sustainability will also not be missed. The IKEA giant shop will also give premium LED lightings and storage space solutions at reasonable prices.
IKEA'S "PEOPLE & PLANET"
Speaking of sustainable, environmental is also something ingrained in the Swedish furniture maker’s philosophy. They call it as People & Planet Positive.
For an end goal target by the year 2030, People & Planet Positive was launched in 2012 with the aim to transform life in the home and life of the people across the world. In line with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goal (SDG), the IKEA vision and culture battle major reality challenges such as climate change and unsustainable consumption.
Their three focus areas include to establish healthy and sustainable living, to be circular and climate positive, and to have fair and equal.
Speaking of fair and equal, another aspect of IKEA’s sustainability development goal is to address the people challenge of inequality – as brought about by the worldly tendency of selfishness, especially towards the impoverished, the colored, and those of the minorities. IKEA Philippines undoubtedly shares the IKEA culture and vision. Not only does the will-be local branch wish to provide better life through functional home furnishings.
The Swedish company’s investment will also open hundreds – and possibly, thousands – of job opportunities to the Filipino people. From construction to actual operations, the manpower for IKEA will be immense and in demand.
Accessible to all, IKEA Philippines will be set to stone on Block 4 of MOA Complex, with bridgeways and links to the mall and to the convention center.
Affordable, convenient, functional and sustainable – these are what IKEA Philippines have in mind for the Filipino people, rest assured by 2020.
Sustainable design should be more than just about making someone feel good for doing the right thing. It does not only revolve around leaving a positive impact to the environment or to society but mainly it heals its occupants by bringing them closer to nature and filtering certain negative forces.
Having home furnishings from the world renowned company surely gives brand and value to your interior. With the endless possibilities of functional and DIY, your imagination and visualizations for your space can become boundless.
