Interior Design Trends That Make The Cut For 2019

2018 has been a year of maximalism – the “more is more” concept highlighted big, bold pieces of furniture and the use of flashy, split complementary colors. Oftenly described as lavish and opulent, maximalist styles were prevalent during this year’s era of minimalism and other interior design trends. All the hype about the Swedish harmonial concept, lagom, (“lagom är bäst”, translating to “just the right amount) did not tone down the popularity and recency of the maximalist aesthetic. Sadie Stein of Elle Décor, a renowned exquisite site, even had her own justifications of why the maximalist feel will never lose its vibe.

Aside from elegant extravagance, 2018 also hosted elegance in simplicity. The complete opposite of maximalism, the wabi-sabi minimalist technique has also been making rounds on everybody’s Instagram feeds and Pinterest boards. Focusing on the earlier opposite of more, having less is the central focus of this design trend. Uncluttered, clean, and tidy spaces are the mood setter for minimalists. Neutral color schemes and streamlined pieces of furniture characterize the palette this design has.

However, it’s time for a change. Because the year is just starting, a few votes must be casted on what’s in and what’s out for 2019 – and that includes which interior design trends are going to be chic for the coming months. We’ve collected the strongest design contenders yet, and most of them are already slowly making their way on the list of trends.

Interior Design Trend: SCANDI-BOHO

Cozy, Nordic, and minimalist, the Scandinavian interior design trend receives a playful twist from the Bohemian style. Scandi a la Boho has risen, with Scandi as a base and Boho as a texture.

Just a run through for each: Scandinavian interior design is a blend of soft hues and low color tones amidst modern furniture. A Scandi home welcomes all without the usage of sunny colors – warm sepia and dark beiges light up the room. Bohemian interior design, on the other hand, is a laid-back style with a touch of earth. With a combination of warm and nature hues as a go-to color scheme, Boho designs feature patterns and low-lying pieces of furniture. For modern Bohemian rooms, metallic surfaces and finishes are also used.

This takes us to the rising trend: Scandi-boho.

Yep. The two styles meet at an intersection. While the former uses solid, neutral lines, and the latter prefers patterns, both incorporate natural elements which include wood and greenery. To form the interior environment, various types of cacti and succulents help, together with brown-hued ambient bases.

Interior Design Trend: WALL ART DECOS

Art is making a huge comeback as essential pieces in interior design, and it intends to take your walls as its reigning space. Usually framed with wood or metallic materials, an installed wall art becomes your living room’s (or if you prefer, your bedroom’s) centerpiece and focal point.

Whether classical or abstract, the addition of art appreciation in every design trend automatically creates a coordinated interior – harmonious in color, in look, and in atmosphere.

You may not notice it, but wall art decorations are too hot on the trends that leading TV maker Samsung is going to roll out The Frame – a crisp, ultra HD wall television that blends in as a picture frame. When it’s hung, know no difference!

Interior Design Trend: CURVED FURNITURE

Hard lines seemed to be out in 2018, because curved styles are steadily circulating in the design world. Usage of semicircular seating and round oak tables are prominently catching the eye of the mainstream, and it’s not hard to spot why.

Pieces of curved furniture, such as the Tom Schneider Collection’s Swirl Shelves and Dune Chaise Lounge, give smooth movement to diverge with a space’s rigid corners and walls. For the eye of the dweller, curves minimize the feeling of living in a box – which is very essential when it comes to productive and comfortable living. If you’re the philosophical type, round shapes and pieces symbolize totality and the luxe effort to perfection.

Interior Design Trend: SUSTAINABLE DECOR

The awareness and the eradication of toxic environments already began in 2018. This year, more and more people are wanting to create healthy life balances inside their home. Social media limitations, fastfood avoidance, and work reliefs are now being highly prioritized by everyone. The most prominent of all, however, is the thrust for starting and maintaining eco-friendly activities and sustainable designs.

"There are different elements in mounting an eco-friendly interior design, and it includes making ways to let natural sunlight penetrate your space."

Better houses for better living is the current battle cry, as generations are trying to revamp lifestyles in accordance to the needs of their health and our mother environment. Fresh light evokes a clean atmosphere and a welcoming mood, making sure that the home dweller gets peace and calm while inside. The walls must be light-toned and not dark-hued, in order to have smooth and warming reflections of the sun. If the position of your house is away from any form of natural light, it’s also suggested to make it glow from the inside through the use of warm lamps.

Summoning your special green thumb is a must, because adding plants both indoors and outdoors are essential for allowing air to flow. Having plants both indoors and outdoors also have a decorative aura, because the greenery tend to accessorize and complement the light colors of your home.
