Japanese-style Meets Industrial: A Shang Salcedo Project
Project Location: Shang Salcedo, Makati, Metro Manila
Theme: Industrial Japanese-style
Interior design styles change in every era. And by that, opposing styles may also be fused in one another. Certain clear-cut rules and requirements are needed in designing a home. But by bending the rules a little and having enough dots to connect -direction, style and culture will come together harmoniously.
In this 104-sqm unit at Shang Salcedo residences, it is all about combining creative space-saving solutions with a unique design style. Tokyo Grand Renovation has made interior designing noteworthy being able to construct a home perfect for one’s lifestyle. By the works of Japanese craftsmanship, this compact home turned into a charming residence.
Japanese-style homes are known for their simplicity and zen. Meanwhile, industrial-themed homes are known for their raw features and the raw look. For this project, two unlikely designs have successfully collaborated giving a city dweller experience the zen and beauty of industrial.
Neutral color scheme is used for this project making the color taupe and gray as the two main colors. The wood took the advantage of the concrete’s unique properties as it accents its decorative value. The wooden floor softens the coldness of concrete giving it more of a homey mood. Additionally, beautiful white surfaces combined with bold accents of refreshing neutrals are used throughout.
Neutral colors are used as a primary backdrop to be able to highlight a person’s preferred style. This approach is much easier to achieve rather than competing with statement colors.
As you enter the unit, the dining area is the first thing that will welcome you. Having a breakfast nook will take your dining experience into the next level. It gives the people a passage to move freely around the kitchen without having the hassle of a minimized space brought by traditional dining areas making a great way to create an informal oasis dedicated to brunching and munching.
Japandi (a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian) inspired chairs are used in the kitchen because of their distinctive legs. As you can see, one distinguishing feature of a Japandi-style home is that it is all about socializing and entertaining, placing focus on creating spaces that can accommodate many guests.
The overall apartment is transformed by natural lighting making it an energy saving space. The daylighting features the beauty of having a raw interior. What makes the raw design different is that it goes beyond aesthetics: it is instead a lifestyle choice, a rejection of the faux and the virtual and a celebration of the real and the brutalist.
The living room’s space and location by the window makes it more conducive to entertaining and socializing with family and friends. In the master’s bedroom, a wonderful view may be enjoyed as it gives inner satisfaction from the hustle and bustle and creative energy offered by the city.
This timeless European design that embodies elegance and grandeur could be your next inspiration.
Most of the time, storage spaces are taken for granted. This apartment is designed to fulfill the homeowners’ needs for sufficient display space. It is customized to be comfortable and organized in a designed space.
A SMART-CULTURED HOME
What makes this project notable is because of the Tatami room. When talking about Japanese homes, tatami rooms are always included. These mats have been so common, it is used to measure a room by how many tatamis can fit. In tatami’s early history, the flooring wasn’t hard mats as known today. Rather they are thin and foldable which is also the origin of the name- tatamu (たたむ) means to fold. Originally, tatamis are made out of rice straws. But nowadays, wood chipboards and polystyrene foam can be found inside the mat.
Wooden floors are used in this tatami room, giving it a touch of what a modern tatami room looks like. The open feel of a tatami room is meant to provide relaxation and peace of mind, thanks to their airness and minimalist furnishing. Underneath the tatami table are storage spaces. By just a press of a button, the tatami room can have different functions. The room can be used as an entertaining area due to its controlled table. It highlights the traditional Japanese lifestyle and culture of omotenashi or as we call, hospitality.
