“A stronger ASEAN is key to unlocking the potentials of the ASEAN Economic Community.” This is a statement stressed by President Rodrigo Duterte in the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering in 2018, as the Philippines continue to involve and participate in efforts for sustainable development. Given testament to by the ongoing construction of New Clark City in Tarlac, the nation is in the pursuit of hoping to push economic progress by reimagining the possibilities of ecological, smart living. The pioneers of this thrust, however, include Bonifacio Global City, one of the earliest sustainable estates in the metro.
Known and dubbed by Ayala Land as “The Home of Passionate Minds”, Bonifacio Global City is one of the prime mixed-used estates in the Philippines to date. The metropolitan hub is more popularized to be called BGC, and it hosts many urbanscapes that cater modern contemporary living. These urban, eco-friendly built-ups include exquisite condominiums, recreational parks, and upscale malls. The history of BGC stretches far back to the era of World War II. Named after US President William McKinley, BGC used to be a military base called Fort McKinley. In 1942, however, the Japanese military renamed it to become Sakura Heiei, which translates as cherry blossoms barracks. It was finally renamed to Fort Bonifacio in 1957, paying homage to the Philippine Katipunan hero, Andres Bonifacio. Throughout the years, Bonifacio Global City has notably evolved and developed. Together with other sustainable estates such as Nuvali Evoliving in Laguna and Alviera in Pampanga, Bonifacio Global City flourishes to become a job-friendly, environment-friendly, and people-friendly complex.
As a modern symbol of technology and advancement, BGC is an undeniable powerhouse of the region.
