GAME OF THRONES SERIES - image courtesy of HBO

The weather may be hot and the sun might be burning a little too brightly. It doesn’t matter, though, because the long wait for Winter is certainly over. After long years of speculation, theory discussions, and fan debates, the heavily-awaited eighth season of Game of Thrones finally premiered. Aside from the many hypotheses and guesswork about who gets a final seat on the Iron Throne, we pretty much dived into the new season clueless and doubtful; but still nonetheless exhilarated and excited.

With Season 8 as the closing installment of the series, the six-episode run will definitely be highly memorable and exceptional. And like all the fans who followed the show since the first appearance of the White Walkers in 2011, you might have been wondering which great Game of Thrones house would you fit in. Are you stern and loyal, like House Stark? Or are you fearless and tough, such as the Greyjoys?

In honor of the long theory conversations and all our binge-watching nights, we’re bringing the world of Westeros closer to you — more precisely, inside your home.

Imagine waking up inside a reading lounge of a Lannister, or picture yourself sipping your afternoon tea inside a pavilion at the heart of a Tyrell garden. If you’re going to redecorate your home into something GOT-inspired, among the Great Houses – Stark, Targaryen, Lannister, Baratheon, Arryn, Greyjoy, Martell, Tully, or Tyrell –  which aesthetic would you choose?

House Tully: Family, Duty, Honor

With the symbol of the silver trout, House Tully of Riverrun is known to be family-centric and the sworn protectors of the household. Kind, fierce and loyal, they take high pride in the fulfillment of their duties and their untarnished honor. The heart of a Tully is evident in Lady Catelyn, with her unconditional care and devotion to the Stark children (Painful reference: The Red Wedding). The same can be said about her younger sister, the late Lysa Arryn. Left only with her son Robin, Lysa showed her love for Sweetrobin rather overwhelmingly, even up to the point of doting.

Interiors and Color Palette: If you’re identifying as a member of the House Tully, it’s best to note that their sigil colors include aegean blue and crimson scarlet — the perfect representation of their peaceful calm and their fiery love.

“The things we love destroy us every time. Remember that.” - George R.R. Martin

The Tullys also have a knack of being traditional, which is why displaying a decorative item that is classically antique may efficiently blend the interior elements in. While the lush ambiance of the Great House may be channeled through the installation of crystal pendants and chandeliers, you can still maintain a contemporary flair by having edge-defined tables and curved pieces of furniture.

House Arryn: As High as Honor

Ruling over the Vale of Arryn and seated at the castle stronghold of The Eyrie, House Arryn is well represented by a white falcon and a crescent moon on a veneer of Prussian blue. The vast army of the Knights of the Vale keeps the mountain lands strong and formidable. Like the Tullys, the Arryns have a noble pleasing for honor – only this time as high as wherever the white falcon may take them.

Interiors and Color Palette: Aside from Prussian blue, silver sand is a prominent color to incorporate in your home if you recognize yourself as a distant relative of Lysa. A house with high ceiling is your main signature, as it echoes the steep, towering halls of The Eyrie. Use the shades of silver sand to make other elements stand out. These include the curtains, the floor’s carpet rugs, and other decorations.

House Greyjoy: We Do Not Sow

Born of the Iron Islands and loyal worshipers of the Drowned God, the Greyjoys are known to focused and extremely headstrong. Symbolized by a golden kraken on a black field, their islands, known collectively as the Pyke, are neither fructuous nor fertile. This makes the House mightily versatile. They are also excellent seafarers.

“We are ironborn. We take what is ours.” - George R.R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: The combination of the hues of tacha gold and bokara gray is an appropriate color palette for the true Ironborn. It is also best to incorporate marble in your overall interior to elevate the subtle glam of your House’s sophistication. Aside from the ambiance of glamour, the strong material of marble transforms your space into something that rests as both classic and contemporary.

House Martell: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

Although formally extinct as a Great House, the unwavering determination of the noble Game of Thrones house from the desert of Dorne continue to burn brightly like the sun. Represented by a sigil of a sun with a spear pierced through it, the Martells are known to be strong warriors. Quick to think and skilled in combat, House Martell were left untouched by during the Targaryen Conquest, specifically due to its location.

The region of Dorne is known to be a desert with an extremely hot climate, thus making this is the only part of Westeros where citrus vegetation like fruits and spices grow. Their sovereignty and independence from the Targaryens gave birth to their high dignity and amour propre.

“Unbowed, unbent, unbroken. A promise to our enemies, and a challenge to our lovers.” - George R. R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: Channeling your inner Dornish? It cannot be denied that an indulgent, maximalist Bohemian decor will suit your interior best. Decorated with bright, striking colors, the Bohemian style is characterized by its playful patterns amidst the many interior botanical. Recreate the palace of Sunspear inside your home by adding low-lying pieces of furniture and decorating with the colors of brown bramble and lightning yellow.

House Tyrell: Growing Strong

Known as the Lords of the Highgarden, the another-extinct Game of Thrones house of the Tyrells are courtly and magnificently genteel. Standing out due to their flamboyant wardrobe, the Tyrells are also fashionable and extravagant. The motto of “Growing Strong” stems from the fertility of their region, The Reach. Quite the opposite of Dorne, The Reach is the most populated because the area houses the villages and fields of crops and livestock. This fertility also acts as a good metaphor for the House’s rich gallantry, together with their quick wit and shrewdness. The Tyrells thrive and flourish, as well-represented by their sigil: a golden rose atop a green cast.

"Our blood runs quite warm.” - George R. R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: Identifying yourself as a descendant of the cunning Lady Olenna? You might want to start decorating your home with luxuriant accents of flora. Your ideal color palette is inclusive of the shades of dark goldenrod and olive green, completing a full furnish of what makes a tropical interior design. Wallpapers patterned with vegetation will also do well for your decoration, in order to capture the atmosphere of an elegant greenhouse at the center of a wide garden.

House Baratheon: Ours is the Fury

Seated at the Storm’s End in the Westeros region of The Stormlands, the also-extinct House Baratheon is known to be deeply willful and quite fickle. Their temperament is best exhibited by former King Robert Baratheon, who rose to the Iron Throne after his successful rebellion against the Targaryen Mad King. The sigil of this Game of Thrones house include a particular stag that is crowned on its neck, slightly about to gallop on its golden crest. Dangerously brave, audacious, and bold, House Baratheon are brazen – literally in accordance with their clan motto, “Ours is the Fury”.

“Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you.” - George R. R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: Feeling as dauntless as the Baratheons? These keynote characteristics will be well-shown inside your home through a fashionable, rustic decoration. Rally and be a bannerman of the pride of your herd by having a sleek pair of antlers displayed in your living room. To create a distinction from the golden hue present in other Houses, a neutral tone for your space is more desirable in order to make the elements stand out.

House Targaryen: Fire and Blood

Headquarted at Dragonstone within the capital region of the crownlands, the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms for approximately three centuries. Exotic and rich with Valyrian-steel, the Dragonstone castle is filled with sizeable sculptures, gargoyles, and various iconography of dragons. The House sigil representing the Targaryens is the red three-headed dragon atop a black crest. Their motto is known to be “Fire and Blood”. One of the key protagonists in the current timeline of the series include the Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains.. (and so on), Daenerys Targaryen. With shining hair as blond as platinum, the Targaryens are known to be extremes – passionate, yet possibly menacing.

“Every flight begins with a fall.” - George R. R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: Striking and notable, the metallic colors of guardsman red and ivory black will bring the most of your ardor and zeal through your decor. Accents of silver and white will also provide ornamentation, together with displays of ceramic vases and miniatures. A home with a large window is suitable if you identify yourself as a Targaryen as it is reminiscent of the warm sky as you ride your legendary dragons.

House Stark: Winter is Coming

Known to be the wardens of the North, House Stark is founded by Brandon the Builder, a legendary member of the First Men from the Age of Heroes. Their coat of arms depict a grey direwolf (an intelligent, mythical species of wolf) on a white crest. The members of House Stark keep their promises and are very much true and loyal to their word, as proven by Lord Eddard’s righteousness at the first few scenes of the first-ever episode. They value, recognize, and respect honor. However, due to the hardships they bear in the North, the Starks are known to be mystic and stoic, nevertheless still enduring. Quite different from the descriptive mottoes of our Houses, theirs come as a warning: “Winter is Coming”.

"The Winters are hard, but the Starks will endure.” - George R. R. Martin

Interiors and Color Palette: Echoing the ambiance and atmosphere of Winterfell, a rustic design suits your interior should you identify as one of the Starks. Often designed similar to a cabin, textiles and organic textures are typical of a rustic interior. There are numerous pieces of wood furniture, supported by minimalist furnishings made of tree trunks of branches. An organic, earthy color palette will complement the rustic look – mainly tawny brown and stone gray.

House Lannister: Hear Me Roar

Current occupants of the Iron Throne in King’s Landing, the Lannisters are one of the richest, the most powerful, and the most influential of the Great Houses. Ruling over the Westerlands, the Lannister seat is located at Casterly Rock, an ancestral fortress. With the golden lion on a red crest as their sigil, the Lannisters are extremely prompt, especially when they are in debt. Clever and proud, they have a penchant for what is great and luxurious- a trait evident in their bloodline through their sense of fashion and the gold they carry every now and then. Determined and undaunted, they also have the tendency to become ruthless and hard-hearted when crossed.

Interiors and Color Palette: As a Lannister, you are an elegant maximalist. Your passion is unyielding, and you have a burning desire to carry your family legacy down to the latest generation. A style geared towards classicism may be best for your home, with your interior decors emanating opulence and affluence. Meanwhile, the colors trombone yellow and crimson red will bring out your lion blood. You may take an interest for the antique, but overall, a combination of glamour, sophistication, and splendor is what your space will create and evoke.
